How to Care for Your Paper Flower Art
Simple habits that keep your botanical sculptures beautiful for decades
The number one enemy of paper flowers is moisture — not dust, not sunlight (in moderation), not handling. Keep your piece away from humidifiers, open windows in rainy weather, and steamy areas like directly above a stove or in a shower bathroom.
Dusting: Use a very soft makeup brush or a can of compressed air held at least 12 inches away. Never use a damp cloth. Dust from the center of the flower outward, following the natural direction of the petals.
Sunlight: Indirect natural light is beautiful and won't cause significant fading for years. Direct, intense sunlight (south-facing windows in summer) can fade pigment over time. If your piece is in a sunny spot, consider rotating it seasonally.
If a petal bends: Don't panic. Crepe paper has memory. Gently reshape the petal with your fingers, applying very light warmth from a hair dryer on the lowest setting held 6 inches away. The paper will soften slightly and hold its new shape as it cools.
